I had the family staying with me for a few days – well, the brother and the dad – the mum was at home getting her version of a holiday – ie. no dad and brother for her to look after. My gorgeous mum had rung me before the arrival of my younger brother in his beast of a deisel-consuming truck-thing and warned me that he had bought some new shirts especially for his visit over… flannelette shirts, no less. Apparently, he’s worked out I can’t stand them. When I was home for a visit at Christmas, the brother had proudly shown me his goatee beard, and advised me of his new found love for bourbon, whiskey and all things brown and alcoholic (and ridiculously potent smelling, if you ask me). He recently bought his truck-thing (it’s white – don’t ask me what sort - all I know is that it would take a hell of a lot of trees for him to be carbon neutral!) And it suddenly hit me then – my brother is a wannabe bogan (for those in the northern hemisphere that don’t know what a bogan is (and for those of us in the southern hemisphere who ever wondered whether bogans knew what computers are): http://www.bogan.com.au/).
Dear brother – I’m only saying this for your own good: bogan’s don’t know all the words to Phantom of the Opera, nor do they discern between a great Pinot Noir and a moderate GSM. They don’t wear expensive watches and can’t talk about religion, philosophy and politics as you do. YOU ARE NOT A BOGAN! It’s time to embrace your inner “nice guy”.

Hi all! I haven’t been blogging for a while after dealing with the rest of my shambles of a life (“life: sometimes you’re the pigeon and sometimes you’re the statue” – I have been way too much of a statue recently!) but am back now and ready to fill up valuable net space with more inciteful ramblings… so, after the horrendous breakup with the (ex-)loved one and the bag snatch in a bar in this godforesaken town that afore-mentioned loved one talked me into moving to, it’s time to get things back on track.. and I don’t just mean getting credit cards re-issued, phone numbers sent to me, locks on the house and car changed, makeup, leather gloves and nanos re-bought.. no, no, no.. I mean a much larger overhaul – my life. So – the hair colour is changed (I was going to ”do a Britney” and shave it off but thought it was a little extreme – and I would look too much like a biker-dyke), the diet has started and the detox is underway.. Not that I ever want to see the loved one again, but if I do, I want to look absolutely AMAZING!!

So it’s a Tuesday night and it’s 11pm and I’m almost through a bottle of wine (I was gonna lie and put a half a bottle, but hey, this is anonymous, right?) and I’m watching “Muriel’s Wedding”. Does it get better than this? Actually, yes. It gets a whole lot better.. but hey, it’s cold out there and I’m working from home tomorrow (see my blog-entry about working from home bed – it’s the key) and today has been an absolute shocker..
It actually just got a whole lot better (and just when I thought my night was at it’s optimum!), my manager rings as I’m typing out that first paragraph and asks me to log on and do some work.. did I mention it’s 11pm and I’ve have a bottle of wine under my belt? Hmmm..

Haven’t written for day or two but wanted to mention a lovely lady who left a message on this site the other day.. Linda at: http://stories-linda.blogspot.com/ - she’s just started blogging and is using her site to get her English up to speed – and I speek gud england at this sight so come on down!
Also to glittergirl and her site: http://www.foodforthought.com.au – great site girlfriend! We need more of them..
Speaking of “sister” sites.. I’ve blogged about Perez (that I need daily hits of) and also about facebook (I have 69 friends now and my loved one announced to every single one of them this morning that he was “now thankfully single – wooh-hooh!” – thanks loved one.. err.. ex-loved one) but I’m compelled to write about another site I recently found and pored over.. I won’t put the URL in here, but I stumbled across it when I was doing a google search about Big Love (the HBO series about polygamy – great show – bit not-what-I’m-used-to). The site is dedicated to sisterwives, ie, wives all married to the same man (Mormon, Jewish, Christians, non-religious). I must have spent at least 8 hours of that (working) day reading all of these different women’s stories about their experiences, PLUS reading all of the lonely heart ads for young women looking to join a polygamous family.. as a second or third sister-wife. There are loads of them out there. I had no idea. And that was 8 hours of my life I am never going to get back.

I love playing matchmaker at the best of times, but at the moment I have made it my mission. I have two gorgeous friends with great personalities (contrary to popular belief the two are NOT mutually exclusive amongst singles) and after much consultation they’ve decided to leave their dating destinies in my hands -they figure they can’t get much worse than they already are anyway! So, I have a parade of men ready for the blind-dating of one (whom I live in the same city as) and I’ve created a profile on an internet dating site for the other.. It means I get to screen men for both and also have some fun. My first attempt at the internet dating thing wasn’t the most successful with my friend telling me that she would rather date me (she’s only human).. and the first blind date wasn’t so great either after one of the datees showed up blind.. But hey, it’s a start.. and beggars can’t be choosers.

Back in Melbourne after 5 sunny days in Sydney and the thing that strikes me whenever I get back here.. No, it’s not the bitterly cold weather. Nor the rain. Not even the overcast skies. It’s the drivers. In a nutshell: these people can’t drive. It’s not just the general aversion to those little things on the side of the steering wheel called indicators, nor the completely oblivious attitude to ordinary traffic markings such as lane lines, but the arrogance of the drivers who assume that they can drive wherever and whenever they want to.. with absolutely no regard for other drivers on the road. I especially don’t understand why people choose to invest hundreds of thousands of dollars on cars that they just can’t drive – I can not count the number of times I have seen a dopey looking driver down here trying to U-turn (read 7-point turn) a BMW X5 or Porsche Cayenne across lanes and lanes of waiting traffic.. It kills me!! That’s all.

Have just had a very enjoyable weekend back in ole Sydney town and a very happy birthday to the three girls that I was able to help celebrate the birthdays of. The intended big weekend actually turned out to be rather low-key (definitely not a bad thing as far as I’m concerned) and I think this is a sign of only one thing –> I am getting old (a.k.a. “I just can’t hack the pace.”). But even still, thank you, girls, because I had a blast. Or at the very least a low rumble.
