Busy little worker bee

Posted by cinderfarkenrella on April 17, 2008

Thanks to the few of you who have asked where I am and also wanted to know why I haven’t updated my blog recently. The truth be told, I have been blardy busy with my actual real job of late. Well, that and playing computer games online…

So, I went to be the flatmate’s support for Oxfam the other day and was talking to her other support crew member (yes, there was only two of us). Anyway, so he asks me if I play a sport.. And I can’t help but laugh.. And he wonders why.. And I tell him.. That I am a massive computer geek, who lately, is not only obsessed wtih Scrabulous on Facebook, but has also discovered Scramble and the plethora of other massively geeky games in the Mindjolt games suite. He looks at me, almost in disbelief (thankfully it wasn’t digust), and stammers, “Um.. computer games?”

“Uh-huh,” I say, “I love them. I play them til well into the night and often when I am at work. I have met people by playing the games. I’m not even embarrassed by them”

He shakes his head. “You don’t look like a computer geek.”

I sigh. I nod. I sigh again. I can’t help who I am, my friend, I can’t help who I am.

Then Saturday night I go out and get so drunk that I don’t remember leaving the bar I was in, I don’t remember falling down the stairs (apparently, it was HILARIOUS to watch – I can only imagine with the various bruises I have). I don’t remember getting into a cab, getting into my house, getting into bed, or anything at all, actually, until 7.37am (I don’t even get up that early on a school day!) when my raging hangover and inevitable feeling of “oh no..” kept me from more slumber.

Just goes to show that being a massive computer geek and a clumsy drunk are not mutually exclusive traits. Who knew?

Crazy kid

Posted by cinderfarkenrella on April 11, 2008

My flatmate is running the Oxfam Trailwalker today. You know, the one that is 100 kms from start to finish that people pass out on and hallucinate at the end of. Yeah, that one. I suggested that she just take the car and have a big piss up with some acid at the end of it for the same effect, but no, she insisted that she and her three colleagues were going to complete the event. And good on her. It’s an impressive feat and I am so proud of her.

The crazy kid title refers to me – I’ve agreed to be their support. Which means standing around in the freezing cold mountains while they come to each checkpoint, cooking food en masse today and worrying that it has just the right amount of carbs and protein to fuel bodies under enormous strain, ensuring that I am cheery and positive and “supportive” enough even in the face of death (they ARE going to look like death!) and then listening to them all grizzle about how hard it has been.. yeah, yeah, well, you lot chose to do it!

Of course, I’m only kidding.. So,to the flatmate-that-I-love and her team – all the very best today. It is for an excellent cause (Oxfam: http://www.oxfam.org.au/) and you are all champions. And I don’t mind that you are going to moan for the next week, I think you guys (black) rock!!

A tale

Posted by cinderfarkenrella on April 10, 2008

Was out for work drinks on Friday night and one of my colleagues had a rather large amount to drink. Actually, we all had rather a large amount to drink, but you know how sometimes you drink and drink and drink, and DON’T get messy - well, that was me. And other times, you drink and drink and drink, and DO get messy – well, that was her. And it was hilarious!! She is a gorgeous girl anyway, but was being exceptionally eager, friendly, smiley, happy on Friday night. Straddling colleagues, chatting to (note – I wrote “to”, not “up”) random strangers, making sure everyone was having a great time, and just generally being the life of the party.

Which was great.. until we got to the Crown casino to meet another colleague, who happened to be out with my customers. Um. Right. Customers. I wasn’t fit for human consumption, let alone customer consumption. So I politely made my excuses, said that we needed to go home, and dragged my friend/colleague away. To another bar. Downstairs. Oops.

So, we’re in this bar and excusing the stupid Canadian who was acting like an American (I pointed this out to said Canadian and it didn’t go down to well), it was loads of fun. We met some randoms to talk to and drank shooters, beers and spirits although at one point I turned around, wondering where my friend was. Oh, there she is.. talking to those guys..

One of whom was.. Andrew Johns! Yes. Andrew Johns. And my colleague had her arm around him, telling him about the play she was going to write and enter into Tropfest, about how much she loved her husband, about her two pet dogs that were way too cute, about rugby (she was telling Andrew Johns about rugby!!), etc, etc, you get the idea. I wandered over and rescued him.. he was grateful (and told me I had a deep, sexy, husky voice- another entry on that) and a gentleman and, much to my disdain, not very drunk at all. In fact, I would go so far as to say that he was sober.

Ten minutes later, my friend escaped again and I was relieved to see she wasn’t talking to Andrew Johns. Oh no. This time, she was talking to Carmichael-somebody.. I didn’t know who he was (although can certainly admire a fine looking young specimen when I see one) but the people we (well, really, I – as my friend was off on her own crusade) were talking to explained that he played for Brisbane in the NRL. Again, she was his best friend and again I had to rescue him.

Long story short, the night was a good great one, even if I did get home at 4.30 (my friend left half an hour before me, lives a half an hour further away and got home half an hour later? Hmmmm.. And for those of you reading who don’t know who these two fellows are:

Red on school nights

Posted by cinderfarkenrella on April 8, 2008

I’m 31 years old. 31. Not old, by any standards. But too old to be drinking on a school night. And yet. Somehow. I manage to do it. Time and time again. Ti-ime and ti-ime again (a la Kings of Tomorrow)!

Lately, I’ve been showing a bit of restraint and only having a few jars of vino collapso. Actually showing even more restraint by not always making sure there are cold casks of whoite woine in the fridge. But herein lies the problem. The weather is getting colder. And day light savings has now ended (so that Queensland is now only 10 years behind us, rather than 10 years and 1 hour). And I have a large selection of lovely reds sitting in my loungeroom waiting to be drunked. My lovely brother works for a winery and brings boxes and boxes of wines over for my drinking pleasure. And don’t think I don’t love him for it. Except the morning after when my hangovers are bad. And red wine tends to be worse than white. And school nights are always worse than weekends.

So it is going to be a long, long winter. And soon I’ll be another year older. And no wiser. Cheers to that! :)

Today..

Posted by cinderfarkenrella on April 8, 2008

Today was not a great day… the ex is still being his usual awful self (he gave me back “our” car and told me to sell it to pay out our loan (something I’ve been wanting to get sorted for months!) - just a shame he left massive dents and scratched on BOTH sides of the car AND told me he’s not going to get it fixed – not to mention, the car is now unregistered, uninsured, and unserviced – thanks a lot farkwit. Thanks a farken lot.

Then there is the new man. Whom I liked. Like, really, really liked. But it just wasn’t happening. So I had to let him know. And let him go. And he wasn’t too impressed. But oh well.  You win some, you lose some. Sorry Mr Dong.

Then there was the work – where I have been told that I can’t go overseas (because my top client is doing a very important piece of work, etc, etc, which I totally understand (but would have rathered go on an international 3-day bender)) AND was then berated by my manager because some dude in India doesn’t have his passport ready. Like this is my fault? Um.. Doshite ne?

Anyway. tomorrow is a new day. And a few wines tonight will no doubt sort me out.

With a few PerezHilton embellishments.

Anyway, so I started a new blog – if you want to check it out: http://101reasonstobecomealesbian.wordpress.com

It’s not all about the guys like the one above who are the lowest of the farken low (yes, for those who have been wondering, the guy above is the ex-loved one – will explain his latest antics to make my life miserable in a seperate blog entry). The new blog is more about disastrous dates, ridiculous relationships and the jokey jocks we share them with. And, no, the stories aren’t all mine.. I have a lot of friends who have told me a lot of stories, over a lot of glasses of wine to contribute to my other site.. Enjoy!
